This photograph was taken around 1987 at a train bridge crossing
over a gorge and stream (not scene in this photo) below, in
Lyndeboro New Hampshire near where I used to live at the time.
There are several photographs from this series which are available
here
to view.
I like this photograph for several reasons, none
of which have anything to do with what makes a photograph a
good one visually. First, the two shadows in this image are
myself (at left) and my friend Jonathan (at right) who was a
great friend for many of my adult years until he died in 1997.
Second, this photograph reminds me of two of my favorite musicians,
Donald Fagen, and Walter Becker, of the band Steely
Dan which used a similar photograph (using shadows of themselves)
on their latest CD, Two
against nature. The ironic part is my friend Jonathan was
also an avid fan of the aforementioned band. I am anxiously
awaiting the bands upcoming release of everything
must go, on May 06, 2003.
Back at the time this photograph was taken, my
camera of choice (which I still own today but don't use nearly
enough) is my Nikon FM2 SLR film camera. Film certainly adds
much time to getting the picture from camera to web page.
