Centuries old – New Hampshire has many cemeteries dating back as many as four centuries, some of them now designated as historical landmarks.

While out driving through the countryside on this early spring day, I came upon a cemetery which sits next to an old church in downtown Greenfield New Hampshire. It was mid day, the air was warm, the sun was bright and high in the sky, and I decided to take a walk around the cemetery grounds with camera in hand in search of some worthwhile photographs.

As isn't always the case, in this particular cemetery, nearly all of the stones were still is good shape given their age and proclivity to random acts of vandalism. The dates and inscriptions carved into the stones made clear the harshness of life and the illnesses which must have struck down children, young adults and sometimes entire families in short order during centuries past.
